Gilbert Chose Me
In 2012, I landed in Arizona chasing one dream, only to discover I was called to another.
I came here for law school—but quickly realized that wasn’t the path for me. What followed was one of the hardest seasons of my life: survival. I worked night shifts in a warehouse, one of the most difficult jobs I’ve ever done. Despite holding a master’s degree, I found myself one paycheck away from homelessness.
Yet, even in that dark season, I held on to three things: faith, purpose, and determination.
A year later, I bought my first car. For the first time, I wasn’t bound by bus schedules or train stops. I drove just to explore—to places I’d never been. One day, I found myself at SanTan Village in Gilbert. Something in my spirit whispered: “You’ll live here someday.”
At the time, it seemed impossible. I was barely surviving. But today, I proudly call Gilbert my home.
My journey here has taken me through Glendale, Phoenix, and Casa Grande. In 2014, when my wife and I married, we lived in Casa Grande—she drove one hour south to Tucson for her hospital job, while I drove north to Scottsdale for mine. Eventually, we found a church in downtown Gilbert. Later, when she took a job in Mesa, it finally made sense to settle in Gilbert.
And here’s what I’ve come to realize: I didn’t just choose Gilbert—Gilbert chose me.
This community’s family-centeredness, its greenery, its spirit—it all spoke to something deep inside me.
My story is one of resilience, redemption, and determination. Faith has always been the compass guiding me. Along the way, I’ve become a bridge: between faith and community, between technology and people, between different worlds that weren’t always designed with someone like me in mind.
And that’s what I’ve decided to make my life mission—building bridges.
Building bridges between cultures.
Building bridges between industries.
Building bridges between people and opportunities.
Building bridges so that others with the same resilience and determination can see a path forward.
Because the truth is this: we are all called for more, created for more, and we all have a place here.
This is just the beginning.
