In the Tension: Leading When It’s Not Clear
There are seasons in life where everything looks like progress on the outside… but internally, it feels like tension.
I’m in one of those seasons right now.
On paper, things are moving—work is active, leadership opportunities are present, doors are opening, and I’m stepping into new spaces. But beneath all of that is a quieter reality:
I’m navigating uncertainty.
I’m carrying pressure.
I’m being stretched.
And if I’m honest, it’s uncomfortable.
When Your Role Feels Smaller Than Your Calling
Lately, I’ve felt the tension of being placed in a box—where my role is being defined more narrowly than what I know I’m capable of delivering.
It would be easy to accept it.
To stay in the lane that’s been given.
To operate safely.
But something in me refuses to settle.
Not out of ego—but out of awareness.
When you’ve seen what you can do… when you’ve operated at a higher level… when you know the value you bring…
Shrinking isn’t humility. It’s misalignment.
So I’m learning this:
You don’t fight for titles—you fight for impact.
And sometimes that means continuing to show up at a higher level… even when your environment hasn’t fully caught up yet.
When Everything Around You Is Moving
In other areas of life, I’m watching people align, partner, and move quickly.
Teams are forming.
Coalitions are building.
Decisions are being made.
And naturally, the question comes:
Where do I fit?
That question can either lead to comparison… or conviction.
I’m choosing conviction.
Because I’ve realized something:
Not every alignment is your assignment.
Just because others are moving fast doesn’t mean you’re behind.
Sometimes the right move is to pause, discern, and move with clarity—not pressure.
The Weight People Don’t Always See
There’s also a layer that doesn’t get talked about enough.
The weight of responsibility.
The emotional tension in relationships.
The mental load of carrying vision while managing real life.
Leadership has a private side.
And if you don’t learn how to process that weight well, it will quietly wear you down.
I’m learning to acknowledge it… without letting it define me.
What This Season Is Teaching Me
This season isn’t wasted. It’s forming something in me.
A few things I’m holding onto:
I don’t need external validation to stay aligned with my calling
Pressure reveals what’s already in me—it doesn’t create it
I can be in transition and still be effective
My identity has to stay anchored, even when everything else feels fluid
If You’re in a Similar Season
If you feel stretched… uncertain… or overlooked right now, hear this:
You’re not off track.
You’re in process.
There’s a difference.
Don’t rush what’s meant to refine you.
Don’t shrink to fit spaces you’ve outgrown.
And don’t confuse activity with progress.
Final Thought
I’m still navigating this season.
Still discerning.
Still building.
Still becoming.
And maybe that’s the real work—not just what we accomplish, but who we are becoming in the process.
If this resonates with you, I’d love to hear what season you’re in right now.
